Erythema Multiforme Is Not Always Erythema Multiforme

Rowell syndrome (RS) describes the rare presentation of EM like lesions found in association with a diagnosis lupus erythematosus (LE). Major diagnostic criteria includes LE, EM, and anti-nuclear antibodies. Minor chilblains, anti-Ro/anti-La antibodies, rheumatoid factor. We present 26-year-old white male seen consultation for chronic erythema multiforme (EM) duration 6 months unresponsive to treatment. Prior our evaluation, he had been by another dermatologist was diagnosed biopsy-proven EM. His rash did not respond previous treatment, including corticosteroids antifungals. Lab results showed positive ANA anti-Ro antibody. The patient met RS started on hydroxychloroquine 200 mg twice daily. Improvement noticed two weeks after beginning Our case demonstrates that an atypical recurrent multiforme, which does typical should raise suspicion prompt screening autoimmune markers erythematosus.
